Cheekee Tales In School
Building Community Lead Stories
Welcome to the Cheekee Tales In School page, where creativity, inclusivity, and community come together to inspire and empower the next generation. This page is dedicated to celebrating the incredible partnership between Cheekee Hero Charity and Ōrākei School, highlighting the transformative impact of the Cheekee Tales Art Programme on our students and the wider community.
Since 2021, the Cheekee Tales Art Programme has been a cornerstone of our collaboration with Ōrākei School. Designed to foster creativity and inclusivity, the programme encourages students to create original works of art and literature that reflect the core values of Ōrākei School. By engaging in this artistic process, students develop a deeper appreciation for diversity and a stronger sense of belonging.
Welcome to the 2025 Cheekee Hero Community Art Display!
This year, the wonderfully creative students of Ōrākei School have once again brought their imaginations to life through art and storytelling. Following the theme “Find Your Wings and Fly,” 8 new Cheekee Heroes have emerged – each one sharing powerful messages of kindness, inclusion, courage, and belonging.
Displayed proudly in our community, along the Ōrākei side of the Glen Innes to Tamakie Shared Path, these artworks give tamariki a platform to shine, inspire others, and remind us all that even the smallest voices can spark the biggest change.
So whether you're a pedestrian, cyclist, runner, or everything in between, be sure to take some time out and admire the artwork!
Don't forget to take a photo of your favourite artwork and tag @cheekeehero #myheromoment
Thank you for supporting Cheekee Tales in School – together, we’re growing creativity, compassion, and community.
Special thanks to:
Ōrākei Arts (initiated by the Ōrākei Local Board) and to BlueSky Community Trust: Your generous grant was the foundation upon which this project was built. This display would not have been possible without your belief in our vision and your commitment to fostering art and inclusivity in our community.
Thank you.
