We take immense pride in the collaboration between SkyCity's Auckland, Sky Tower, and Cheekee Hero Charity to bring forth the inspiring initiative, Glow Gold. This kaupapa (initiative) holds a special place in our hearts.
The inaugural event took place on the 4th of September 2020, dedicated to raising awareness for International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. On the 27th of February 2021, in support of Child Cancer Foundation's annual street appeal, the Sky Tower illuminated the night in a brilliant golden glow. It shone bright once again on the 17th of September 2021, supporting our mission to raise awareness of the gold ribbon and its profound significance in the fight against childhood cancer.
In 2022, Cheekee Hero officially joined forces with Child Cancer Foundation, leveraging our combined superpowers to make a lasting impact. We are incredibly grateful that Child Cancer Foundation recognises the value of our work and supports us at the grassroots level.
To further amplify this incredible cause, the Sky Tower glowed gold on the 23rd and 24th of September 2022. It will also shine brilliantly in gold every year to support International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Rest assured, we will keep you all informed of future dates and events.
Childhood cancer affects numerous families across Aotearoa, New Zealand. Each year, more than three families per week receive the heart-wrenching news of a childhood cancer diagnosis. September serves as a beacon of light to honor our superheroes, their families, and the unwavering supporters. It is a time to raise awareness of the gold ribbon and its profound significance, as well as emphasise the importance of research for kinder treatments tailored to the specific needs of children.
Cheekee Hero Charity and Child Cancer Foundation will continue to work hand in hand, united in our determination to Glow Gold and bring hope to the lives of those affected by childhood cancer. Together, we can make a difference, one golden step at a time.
