Cheekee Hero Day
Cheekee Hero Day 2026
Since 2021, Ōrākei School and Cheekee Hero have come together to celebrate tamariki through Cheekee Hero Day - a day inspired by superheroes, gold, kindness, compassion and the belief that every child has the power to make a difference.
What began as the Cheekee Run has grown into a much-loved annual celebration of connection, inclusion and community.
In 2026, our theme is Awhi Mai – Every Child, Every Challenge, Every Champion.
Awhi mai means to support, embrace and stand beside one another. This year, Cheekee Hero Day is all about creating moments where tamariki feel seen, supported, included and celebrated, regardless of the challenges they may be navigating.
Through play, connection and community, we want every child to know that they belong - and that they have a team standing beside them.
Celebrating Our Champions
Throughout the day, tamariki will have opportunities to take part in fun, inclusive activities designed to bring everyone together.
We will also celebrate tauira who demonstrate the qualities of a true Cheekee Hero, with prizes and giveaways recognising kindness, sportsmanship and a can-do attitude!
Because being a hero isn't about being the fastest, strongest or loudest. It's about how we treat others, how we respond to challenges and how we lift those around us.

We welcome whānau, community organisations and volunteers to help us create another unforgettable day for our tamariki.
