Ōrākei School, A Gold Supporter of Cheekee Hero
On the 12th of March 2021, Ōrākei School witnessed the inaugural Cheekee Run, a humble event that left a lasting impression on everyone involved. The overwhelming success of this “fun riaser” paved the way for the annual Cheekee Run, held on the 14th of November 2022 and it quickly became a highlight of the school year.
The Cheekee Run was conceived with the primary goal of fostering connections among all tamariki (children), spreading joy, and creating an inclusive environment where everyone could participate. The event’s theme revolved around superheroes and the colour gold, emphasizing kindness, compassion, and caring for one another, especially for those who face daily challenges.
Onwards and Upwards
Last year we announced the newly named event, Cheekee Hero Day, which was held on Monday, 9th December 2024, at Ōrākei School and was a fantastic day filled with laughter and connection.
This year, we’re joining hearts to raise funds for Cheekee Hero Goodee Bags — care packs filled with fun activities and comfort toys for tamariki at Starship Children’s Hospital. Each bag is a small act of love, reminding children in hospital that their community is thinking of them.
Cheekee Hero Day is more than just fun and games — it’s about showing our tamariki the power of compassion and the joy of giving. Our hope is that this experience will inspire them to grow into rangatahi who continue to look out for others and put good back into the world.

Cheekee Hero Day will feature a variety of outdoor zoned areas, including:
An all-Inclusive Fun Run Course: A fun and engaging run designed for all students of all abilities to participate and enjoy.
- Dance Party Zone: A lively dance area where tamariki can showcase their best moves.
- Games Zones: Games promoting inclusion and engagement.
- Chill Zone: A relaxing area for students to unwind and take a break from the excitement.
- Sausage Sizzle & Ice blocks: Delicious food to keep everyone energized throughout the day.
